Six police officers wounded by gunfire during Martinique protest
FORT-DE-FRANCE-At least six police officers were injured by gunfire during overnight protests in Martinique over the rising cost of living, officials reported.

Two suspects were arrested. The unrest, which escalated Monday night, involved burning cars and tear gas as police clashed with demonstrators. A civilian was also injured by gunfire and hospitalized. Several stores were looted, prompting government officials to call for calm.

Martinique has faced similar protests in recent years, often driven by grievances over economic, social, and racial inequality.
