PHILIPSBURG—Sixty-four traffic violation fines, two arrests for possession of illegal narcotics and one arrest for a falsified driver’s license are among the results of a police operation conducted this week in St. Maarten’s capital. According to the St. Maarten Police Force (KPSM) the traffic controls will be intensified as the island proceeds into the tourist high season. Motorists are therefore being advised to cooperate with law enforcement, ensure that all vehicle documentation are valid and avoid parking in unauthorized areas.
“These operations, involving officers both on bicycles and in vehicles, are part of a concerted effort to address parking and traffic-related and other issues within the Philipsburg area. At the beginning of this week officers executed a traffic control operation across key streets in Philipsburg, including Front Street, Cannegieter Street, and Cyril Webster Street,” the Police via press release said.
A total of 80 vehicles were stopped and inspected.
“The KPSM remains dedicated to maintaining order and ensuring road safety. The police force appreciates the public’s continued cooperation,” the Police said.
