Temporary school being built in St. Vincent to accommodate displaced Union Island students

KNGSTOWN-Students from Union Island will soon attend a temporary school being built in St Vincent, following the catastrophic damage caused by Hurricane Beryl.

That is according to St Vincent’s Agency for Public Information who said “approximately 310 of 450 students from Union Island will attend temporary school being constructed.”

The new facility, scheduled for completion before September 9, 2024, will serve students from Union Island Secondary School, Stephanie Browne Primary School, and Mary Hutchinson Primary School.

Hurricane Beryl, a category 4 storm that struck on July 1, devastated Union Island, demolishing over 90% of the island’s buildings.

The hurricane left around 200 secondary school students and about 250 primary school students without adequate schooling facilities.
