BES-On Sunday 1 September, around 6.30 pm, the Dutch Caribbean Police Force (KPCN), in cooperation with Customs CN, held an action on the Kaya Ir. Randolph Statius van Eps (the road to Sorobon) in response to the illegal activities that take place on this road.
The road was closed by the police on both sides and the drivers were checked for the necessary documents. At the same time, Customs, together with two trained dogs, carried out a check for violation of the Opium Act and Firearms Act BES. During this inspection, 92 vehicles were checked, of which 80 cars, 10 scooters and 2 quads. A total of 18 fines were issued. These fines were 9 for driving without a valid driver’s license and 9 for driving without valid insurance or not being able to show it.
Police took four cars, one pickup truck and one scooter to the police station. This means that the owner can get their vehicle back after the necessary documents can be presented or after they have been fully examined. Owners of impounded or detained two-wheeled vehicles are requested to report by mail to ketenbeslag@politiecn.com or by telephone on (+599) 715 8087, from Monday to Thursday, between 08:00 and 16:00. As the owner, you must report with proof of purchase and you must comply with all laws and regulations regarding the use of your vehicle. This includes a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance. The towing costs will be charged to the driver.
In addition, several bags of suspected narcotics (marijuana) were also seized.
The KPCN calls on everyone not to participate in this type of illegal activity. The police will continue to carry out these types of actions to ensure the safety of all participants in traffic. Don’t want to lose your vehicle? Do not participate in this type of illegal activity.
In addition, the KPCN would also like to draw everyone’s attention to having the necessary documents in order. It is also strongly advised to adhere to the rules of the traffic rules. This also contributes to safe traffic on the island.
Are you not following the rules? Then you can get a fine. The amount of a fine for the above violations varies between $30 and $225.
