WILLEMSTAD-The Central General di Trahadonan di Korsou (CGTC) is concerned about the recent political developments in Curaçao and calls for the restructuring of the Pisas II cabinet. This is reported by various media.
The union specifically refers to Finance Minister Javier Silvania (MFF), who they said would rule the country unilaterally and authoritarianly, with no respect for the legitimate institutions. The union is concerned about recent government decisions, such as the massive tax remission for “certain friends” and the policy on landfills, which has recently been adjusted following the intervention of the BTG union.
“The democratic organs and procedures must be respected and the government must not use the political crisis as an excuse to ignore laws and legitimate procedures,” CGTC said. The union advocates a government that promotes real and continuous participation, involving workers and residents in important decisions.
The union believes that the political stability of Curaçao depends on a serious government that puts the interests of the people and the working class first.
According to CGTC, the unions will take decisive steps. “These steps should consist of a mix of actions and compromises at different levels, with the aim of improving the political situation from a practical trade union perspective,” says the CGTC.
