WILLEMSTAD-In a large-scale police operation on Curaçao, seven men were arrested on Friday on suspicion of involvement in large-scale drug trafficking and money laundering. This is reported by the Curaçao Police Force (KPC).
The operation, carried out by the local and Dutch authorities, targeted multiple homes and businesses in the neighborhoods of Sta. Rosa, Jongbloed, Rooi Catootje, Schelpwijk, Ronde Klip, Seru Grandi, and Sunset Heights. Firearms, cash and phones were seized.
Initially, two women were also arrested, but released after questioning. Local media reported that one of the main suspects was allegedly involved in a shooting range and allegedly supplied bulletproof vests for the police. The case is being investigated further and more arrests are not ruled out.
An official press release from the KPC was only issued after rumors circulated that the government did not want to release the information due to the direct involvement of two ministers. The police denied the rumors and sent out a press release about the raids and arrests.
