New U.S. Consul General welcomed to the Dutch Caribbean

WILLEMSTAD-John McNamara, a Senior Foreign Service Officer of the U.S. Department of State, will be the new Consul General of the United States in Curaçao. This was announced by the American Consulate on Friday.

Prior to his appointment, McNamara was the deputy chief of mission and chargé d’affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Lima, Peru. He previously worked as a political adviser at the U.S. Embassy in Bogota, Colombia, during the peace negotiations with the FARC. He also served at the U.S. embassies in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In Washington, D.C., McNamara was a lecturer at the National Defense University and worked at the State Department’s Bureau of Mexican Affairs.

McNamara received his Bachelor of Science from the United States Military Academy at West Point and his Master of Arts from the United States Army Command and General Staff College.

The United States Consul in Curacao provides consul services to United States citizens and residents of the Dutch Caribbean.
